Origins

Baptist work in Ayden had its unofficial beginning in the year 1890, when a Sunday School was organized and preaching was held once a month. In 1892 A. G. and Susan Cox gave the present site upon which the church is located. On July 2, 1898 the Ayden Baptist Church was officially established and in July, 1960 the name was changed to First Baptist Church of Ayden, NC.

Twenty charter members composed the original church and all are deceased. The Rev. W. L. Bilbro was called as first pastor of the church and he has been followed by a succession of more than twenty other pastors. On October 23, 2022, Rev. Mario Moreno was called as new interim pastor.

Building, Grounds, & Resources

Building remodeling was done in 1940 and 1943. A fire occurred on May 30, 1959 doing much damage to the interior of the church, which was rebuilt along with the addition of the pastor’s study, secretary’s office, fellowship hall and kitchen, eleven Sunday School rooms, and ground breaking took place March 1, 1969. Due to settling of the rear portion of the Sanctuary extensive repairs were necessary in 1990.
